We’re Looking for a New Honorary Secretary — Might It Be You?
The CILIP Government Information Group (GIG) is seeking an organised, proactive, and enthusiastic Secretary to support its committee and help strengthen the voice of government knowledge and information professionals.
We welcome applications from all CILIP members, particularly those who work with or have an interest in Government Knowledge & Information Management, official information, or the wider public sector information landscape.

Purpose of the Role
The Secretary leads on GIG’s administrative coordination—ensuring the Committee runs smoothly, communicates effectively, and meets its governance responsibilities.
Applicants must be current CILIP members.
Key Responsibilities
As Secretary, you will:
- Act as a primary contact for correspondence to the GIG Committee, responding or directing enquiries as appropriate.
- Organise committee and general meetings (including the AGM), usually held online—scheduling dates, and agreeing the agendas with the Chair and Committee members.
- Prepare and circulate minutes for committee meetings.
- Support annual and ad hoc planning, including CILIP consultation responses and annual reporting.
- Maintain GIG records, such as committee membership information, business planning schedules, and the GIG document archive, using cloud storage tools.
- Advise on CILIP Member Network governance and guidance, with support from the Chair and CILIP staff.
- Assist with GIG communications, including website updates, blog posts, email newsletters, and social media.
- Contribute to events and projects, including planning, marketing, and attendee coordination.
- Promote GIG membership and the benefits of CILIP Member Networks across the profession.
Time Commitment
- Approximately 1 hour per week, varying with activity levels.
- Attendance at 4 online committee meetings and the AGM each year (minute‑taking required).
- Additional support during events (e.g., answering delegate enquiries).
Committee members are encouraged to be engaged, responsive, and proactive - participating in email discussions between meetings.
