CILIP GIG are delighted to announce an in-person visit to the Bank of England’s Library and Archive. The Bank of England is the UK’s central bank. Its mission is to maintain monetary and financial stability for the people of the United Kingdom. Founded in 1694, the Bank was originally established to serve as banker to the Government. Today, its responsibilities are much broader.

This visit offers a rare opportunity to explore the Bank’s Library and Archive. Attendees will gain insight into how the service operates and supports research activity. The programme will also include the chance to view selected Special Collections items and take a tour of the Archive store.

Location

The Bank of England building is located on Threadneedle Street, by Bank junction in the City of London. The area is well served by public transport, with nearby tube and rail stations and bus stops. Although there is no parking at the Bank of England, there are cycle stands and cycle hire docking stations nearby, and the nearest car parks are approximately half a mile away. Further information about visiting the Bank of England can be found on the Bank of England website

Registration

Registration for the visit is available to CILIP members.
