GIG Blog – How to submit a post

The Blog for the CILIP Government Information Group replaced our journal GKIM Matters some years ago and serves as a significant channel of communication among the Group’s member and the wider community of information professionals. Our readers can find content about news of the Group, like announcements of events and committee vacancies; reports on events such as webinars and conferences; members’ interviews; personal reflections and comments on topics around our profession, and more.

We would like to encourage more members to contribute to our blog so that we can present a wider perspective and a variety of voices. If you are a member of GIG or the wider CILIP, we would like to hear from you. For example, have you worked or are currently working on an interesting or challenging project and would like to talk about it? Have you been successful in implementing something new in your organisation or are there lessons learned from a plan that did not go as expected? Is there a professional book/article you have read and would like to share your thoughts with us? We will be happy to interview you and present another colleague to our readers, too!

We gratefully accept a wide variety of content for the blog! We don’t specify a word limit, but in common with many blogs, our posting tend not to be very long. (3-4 minute read maximum). We may need to split longer submissions into several different posts and will appreciate contributors help with this.

Our blog replaces our professional journal, and we, therefore, hope that postings will inform, update, generate a sense of shared community, and / or prompt our readers to think, reflect or evaluate their own practices and experiences. Postings that encourage further professional dialogue will be welcomed and we encourage contributors to be part of this continuing discussion.  We particularly welcome contributions from new professionals, CILIP professional registration candidates, and voices that aren’t often heard within the GKIM Community.

Your blog submissions should be original to you. If you are sharing content that has been, or will be published elsewhere, then please check carefully that you are able to share this material under the terms of any agreement with the other publisher. Please let us know where this is the case.

You are very welcome to contact us at: Secretary.GIG@cilip.org.uk to talk about it. We accept Word documents with any photograph/image you choose to send with it. When providing images for publication please indicate who owns the copyright. If using stock images then please only use those that have been licensed for legitimate free re-use, providing the source URL. Posts should also include a short bio of their authors so that our readers know whose text they are reading. If you, also, opt to send us a recent profile pic of yourself, we will be happy to include it in the post. Just keep in mind, please, that we reserve the right to edit or refuse content, if it is not relevant to GKIM.

We are looking forward to hearing from you. For any questions, please contact the email above.
