GKIM review of CILIP's Professional Knowledge and Skills Base (PKSB)
The
CILIP Professional Knowledge and Skills Base (PKSB) is the skill standard for
the knowledge, information and library sector. Through 2020 a cross-sector team
of expert peer reviewers have updated the PKSB. It is essential the PKSB
reflects accurately the needs of the sector as it underpins all CILIP’s
workforce development activity for the sector. It defines the skills that unite
the whole sector, provides a common language and a benchmark for transferable
skills.
CILIP
will be inviting key stakeholders to review and comment on the Draft Revised
PKSB, including seeking the views of Government KIM professionals (see this CILIP
News item of 8 December 2020). It is key that the PKSB is “for the sector
and by the sector” reflecting the real applied practice of our work. CILIP
would really value your insight and expertise to help it shape the final
version.
CILIP
will be circulating the draft for comment when ready which we will post on our
blog and promote through our Twitter
account. There is no need to comment on every section of the PKSB,
you need only comment on the sections where you have particular interest.
Members are encouraged to submit responses on the draft revised PKSB to info.gig@cilip.org.uk. Comment could
also be send to the GKIM Head of Profession GKIMHOP@communities.gov.uk, if
preferred. In either instance please mark your email PKSB. Responses will be
collated and forwarded to CILIP. The deadline for responses will be
13 January 2021.
Our
thanks to GKIM Head of Profession for raising our awareness of this
consultation and allowing us to re-use much of this text.
